The professional left attacks activists again | @leftist_news12 | #TheDissident | @GetIndieNews | #GetINN
Taking another look at the problem with the professional left.
Chris Hedges on an appearance on the bad faith podcast said this of the boutique left “The danger of accumulating wealth is the danger of corruption. You begin to associate with that class of the economic elite, you begin to like it, & you begin to hedge." This is exactly the problem with two professionals left members Hasan Piker and Eoin Higgins who were attacking grassroots activists. The Fred Hampton leftist network is organizing a General strike summit with a number of different activists and political pundits coming together to discuss how best to organize a general strike and educate viewers on the issue.
Similar to force the vote and the march for medicare for all this would appear to be something all leftists should get behind despite disagreements and differences. Unfortunately, some in the professional left who attacked the medicare for all movements are also attacking the general strike summit. Journalist and pundit Eoin Higgins took issue with three of the many speakers at the event posting screenshots of Comedian Jimmy Dore, Founder of the MCSC network Niko House and journalist Fiorella Isabel and saying “Sounds like a really serious event”.
Eoin Higgins is calling this event not serious for one simple reason: the participants are not part of the club. Eoin has a massive issue with Jimmy, Niko, and Fiorella but has no issue with writing articles for pro-war and pro-capitalist mainstream media outlets like Business Insider and The Atlantic. Eoin is one of many people in journalism who want to be part of the mainstream media club. Supporting the general strike summit does not get you any praise within mainstream media circles so Eoin will not do it. The three figures Eoin attacked are not part of mainstream media circles so Eoin feels he can attack them. But you will never see him attacking a professional left outlet like The Intercept because it will make him lose friends and influence within mainstream and mainstream adjacent journalism circles.
The next member of the professional left that decided to attack the summit was Twitch streamer Hasan Piker who snarkily said “a general strike is when you watch my Livestream”.
Hasan Piker is the perfect example of who Hedges was talking about. Hasan Piker has a net worth of three million. This would not be inherently a bad thing if he actually advocated for socialist policies but he does not. Piker attacks real activists like those organizing the General Strike Summit because he is class loyal. Piker does not care about helping people or a better world but instead attacks those who do. To Piker socialism is not an ideology but a lifestyle brand. Everything he does is to gain clicks and grow his brand. He goes on Twitch streams playing among us with AOC and takes pictures wearing a t-shirt saying "make the rich pay". Again Piker feels fine attacking real activists because they cannot do anything for his career so he feels fine going after them.
Grifters
The word grifter gets thrown around a lot these days but people like Higgins and Piker are truly grifters. They attack those who actually threaten power to advance their own careers. Higgins wants so desperately to be accepted by the mainstream media he will mock those outsides of it as “unserious”. Hasan Piker will attack activists with no power but won’t say a word critical of AOC because he built his career off of her. Ask yourself these questions: if supporting the general strike summit would advance the career of Piker of Higgins would they support it? In my view, the answer is an obvious yes.
